Comparison of 6063 aluminum with 6061

These two alloys are the most common of profiles, but 6063 takes the number one spot and alloy  6061  comes in at number two. Both are part of the forming alloys and are made primarily of magnesium and silicon alloys. As such, they possess many of the same properties. They offer similar corrosion resistance, weldability and application capabilities. Both can be used in many applications.

One key difference is that 6061 is a stiffer grade and its strength is approximately equal to that of structural steel. Therefore, it is often used for structural applications. On the other hand, an advantage of 6063 is that it is easier to form complex shapes with smooth surfaces. It is also very suitable for anodizing and offers better corrosion resistance
